What age group?

2.5 to 6 years old, but we are happy to include older children and support them.

Not sure which Level is suitable for my child?

If your child has been using his/her balance bike for some time now then maybe Level 2. Level one is for beginners encouraging confidence in using a balance bike, before they move on to pedal bikes. If you are totally unsure, then we can assess your child before you enrol on our courses.

My child is already using a bike with stabilisers, can they still join?

Yes they can join, however the emphasis will be on teaching children how to ride their pedal bike, without the use of the stabilisers. We encourage children not to use stabilisers.

Do parents have to stay for the sessions?

Yes, because of the age of the children. Also we encourage parents to participate and support where they can with their children. Learning to ride a bike is a big step in a child’s life and it’s a great opportunity to be part of their progress and development, in a group setting.

We don’t have a balance bike?

Balance bikes and helmets are provided.

Can my child bring their own balance bike?

Yes, but you need to ensure that the balance bike has one working brake and we still need to check the bike before each session, for health and safety reasons.

My child has just learnt to ride their pedal bike, can we still join?

Yes, you can and maybe your child will benefit from a Level 2 course. Here they can improve their skills and knowledge and become more of a competent bike rider in a group based setting.

Balanceability is the fundamental starting point for children's cycling and excellent opportunity to promote active lifestyles at the earliest possible age. I can see it also provides a natural lead into Bikeability for Schools and I would encourage all schools to give children the opportunity to use Balance Bikes
