The MiniBikers Story
Minibikers Learn to Cycle Programme was born in 2015. In delivering Bikeability training direct to primary schools, I witnessed many children unable to participate as they didn’t know how to ride a bike, I felt a great need to improve this. Whilst aware that you can learn to ride a bike at any age, it is evident that the earlier you do this the easier it is.
Additionally, the full benefits that cycling can bring to children in their childhood alone and more so at a time when technology has advanced and activity levels decreasing pushed the Minibikers Learn to Cycle idea further. Here the vision was clear, to introduce cycling to children as early as possible!
Minibikers Courses were set up initially targeted at children 2.5 years up to 10 years of age following the principles of the Balanceability Programme. The demand and success of so many children not only learning to ride but having fun and enjoying the courses with confidence greatly increased the demand and the need to expand.
Our Team
I therefore had to recruit a number of Instructors to assist in delivery and Minibikers moved from a one man company to a full team of Instructors. Our Team of Balanceability/Bikeability Instructors have full background experience of supporting children of varying ages direct in schools. We are trained to support children with various needs and ensure our training in inclusive and we are trained in the area of SEND and Early Years Development.
Where We Deliver
We deliver courses to local authorities, schools, nurseries, leisure centres, community centres and community groups.
As we expanded the demand for cycles grew and Minibikers Cycles was born. We sell all children’s bikes including Frog, Cuda, Forme and all accessories inclusive of helmets, lights, bells, jerseys etc.
Our vision was still there – to get as many children cycling as early as possible and with some fantastic success stories of learning to cycle I focused on ways to introduce this even earlier and therefore sourced bikes to assist with this that were lightweight and encouraged the development of early fine and gross motor skills.
Here Mini Bikers Toddler Balanceability sessions were introduced for children from 18 months. We have a Team of Instructors specifically trained to support children in early years and development. We are extremely proud of this development and success and are the first organisation in the Uk to have set up and targeted an early introduction to cycling – some even earlier than 18 months!
