What’s Minibikers Balanceability?
Balanceability is the UK's first afPE-approved and accredited 'learn to cycle' programme for children aged 18 months to 10 years. Minibikers Balanceability comprises fun, play-based activities that build confidence, focusing on gross motor skills, spatial awareness, and dynamic balance—enabling young children to cycle without ever needing stabilisers.
What age group do you cater for?
We teach children from 18 months up to 10 years old across three progressive course stages: Toddler Balanceability (18m–4y), Level One Balance Bikes (3–10y), and Level Two Pedal Bikes (3–10y). We also provide adult learn-to-ride and family sessions.
Do I have to pay a joining fee?
No joining fee or subscription is required. You only pay the straightforward course fee for your child's 4 to 5-week block.
I’m unsure which level is suitable for my child?
If your child has been using a balance bike for some time and is confident gliding with their feet up, they are ready for Level Two (Pedal Bikes). Level One is for beginners who need to build balance, confidence, and braking control before transitioning. If you are totally unsure, our coaches can assess your child before enrolment.
My child is already using a bike with stabilisers, can they still join?
Yes, absolutely! However, the focus of our programme is teaching children how to ride independently without stabilisers. We actively encourage removing stabilisers so children can develop true dynamic balance and body lean.
Do you support children with SEND?
Yes, we take great pride in making our sessions inclusive. Our instructors are qualified and trained in Early Years Development and SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities), adapting coaching techniques to suit each child's pace.
Do parents have to stay for the sessions?
Yes, parents or carers must stay on-site due to the age of the children. We warmly encourage parents to cheer, participate, and share in their child’s milestones. Learning to ride is a major developmental achievement, and being part of their journey in a positive group setting is wonderfully rewarding.
We don’t have a balance bike — can we still attend?
Yes! We provide a complete fleet of specialised, lightweight aluminium balance bikes and helmets for all training sessions. You do not need to buy a bike before starting.
Can my child bring their own balance bike?
Yes, your child is welcome to use their own balance bike, provided it has at least one working rear brake. Our instructors conduct a quick health and safety check on all personal bikes before each session starts.
My child has just learned to pedal, can we still join?
Yes. The Level Two pedal course is ideal for children who can pedal but still need to improve start-off technique, emergency stopping, cornering, and spatial road confidence in a supportive group environment.
Do I need to bring my own pedal bike for Level Two?
We encourage children to bring their own pedal bike so they get accustomed to their own geometry. However, if you don't have a suitable lightweight pedal bike yet, we can provide one for the session.
